Already have a world you love? You can bring it to your server and carry on exactly where you left off. Each world is two files: a .db file (the world itself) and a .fwl file (its metadata).
1. Find your world files
On Windows, press Win + R, paste this and press Enter:
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\worlds_local
Copy both files with your world’s name, for example Midgard.db and Midgard.fwl. If your world was saved to Steam Cloud, it may be in the worlds folder instead. Use the in-game “Move to local” option first.
2. Upload them
- Stop your server from the dashboard.
- Upload both files to the server’s
worlds_localfolder using the file manager or SFTP. - In Settings, set World name to exactly the file name without the extension, e.g.
Midgard. - Start the server.
3. Check it worked
The console should show the world loading by name. If you get a brand new world instead, the world name doesn’t match the file names exactly, including capital letters.
Tip: take a backup straight after your first successful start, so you always have a clean copy.
