How to install plugins on your Hytale server

Plugins add features to your Hytale server: protected land, economies, minigames, better chat, admin tools and more. They run on the server, and most don't need players to install anything.

1. Finding plugins

• Download plugins only from sources you trust, such as well-known mod sites and the author's official page. A plugin runs on your server with full access to your world.
• Check the plugin says it supports the same Hytale version as your server. Since Chapter 1 (Update 7), plugins built for older updates may need an update from their author.
• Read the description for dependencies: other plugins or libraries it needs to work.

2. Install a plugin

1. Take a backup from your dashboard's Backups tab.
2. Open the Mods tab and drag the plugin file onto the upload box. Nexcom puts it in the right folder for you. For big plugin packs, use SFTP.
3. Restart the server from the dashboard.
4. Watch the Console as it starts. Most plugins print a line when they load successfully.

3. Configure it

Many plugins create a settings file the first time they load. Find it in the Files tab (usually in a folder named after the plugin), edit it, save and restart. Each plugin's page explains its own options.

4. If the server won't start

1. Open the Console and scroll to the first error. It usually names the plugin that failed.
2. On the Mods tab, switch that plugin off. Its file is renamed so it doesn't load, but it isn't deleted.
3. Restart. If the server starts, check the plugin's page for an update or a missing dependency.

5. Keeping plugins up to date

Hytale is in early access and updates often. After each game update:

• Take a backup before the update.
• Check each plugin for a version that supports the new update.
• Switch off any that haven't been updated yet, rather than risking your world.
